APLS offers emergency physicians, pediatricians, nurses and other allied health professionals the advanced knowledge and skills necessary to assess and manage critically ill or injured children during the first hours in the emergency department or office-based settings.

About APLS

APLS: The Pediatric Emergency Medicine Resource, Fifth Edition is a valuable resource for pediatric residents in training. It covers a broad range of pediatric conditions and is case-based, which makes for more interesting, real-life learning.

APLS Course Administration

Any physician who treats pediatric patients-pediatricians, family practice physicians, emergency physicians-actually, any physician in an office, urgent care setting, hospital or other inpatient facility or emergency department who might be called on to care for a pediatric patient.

APLS Course Director

In order for an APLS Course to be approved by AAP or ACEP, or for APLS Course Completion Cards to be issued to students, the course must be led by a physician who is an approved APLS Course Director. Recruiting a Course Director should be the first priority.

APLS Faculty

APLS Faculty should be multidisciplinary and include at least one board-certified pediatrician and one board-certified emergency physician. A pediatric emergency physician can fill both of these roles.

APLS Course Schedule

The APLS Steering Committee wanted to make the APLS Course and the teaching-and-learning materials more flexible to meet the needs of Course Directors and their students.
